Are You Done Growing?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

growing in hand

No matter how old we get, there is always room for growth. Each day is an opportunity to learn more about ourselves and the role we play in the world. While there may be days we wish we already had everything figured out, life is full of surprises that show us that we don’t know it all. God places us in situations that stretch us and help us to gain further wisdom.

Hebrews 5:12-14: “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

Do You Need a Vacation?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

vacation

We have all had days (or weeks or months) when we wish we could get away and escape the stress of life. Our desire to get away from it all becomes even more evident when we experience an extra hard day. Whether we are trying to get away from work, school, or just life in general, we need a place we can run to where we feel happy and safe. God can be that escape, a safe haven away from the anxiety and hassles that we deal with on a daily basis.

Luke 21:36: “But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Life would be much simpler if God would take away all of our problems and only leave us with good days but, if He did…

What Do You Choose?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

right-and-wrong-decisions

We have free will to do whatever we want with our lives. We are free to make whatever choices we want to make. And yet, just as with the law, there are consequences for making bad choices. It is important to remember that, although we have the ability to choose, we should look to God to direct us to the right choice. We have to show faith by allowing God to take the driver’s seat so we can live righteous lives.

1 Corinthians 6:12: “‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say – but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything’ – but I will not be mastered by anything.”

Sin can easily take control of our lives if we allow evil to get a foothold. Freedom to make our own choices is a blessing because we have been given the opportunity to make the…

Are You Thankful?

open arms at the top

Life is a journey filled with praise-worthy moments that make us utterly joyful. When life is going well, we are more prone to be thankful to God for our blessings. However, it is more difficult to be thankful when we are dealing with cringe-worthy moments that make us utterly depressed. It’s easy to be overwhelmed when we are dealing with something difficult and forget to thank God for our blessings. The best way to turn our attitude around is to thank the Lord, despite the hardships.

1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Our God is a mighty God who blesses our lives so completely. He is worthy of our praise and yet at times we are easily distracted and forget to say “Thank You”. What we may fail to realize is that a change in attitude…

Why Aren’t You Laughing?

tourism, travel, people, leisure and teenage concept - group of

Laughter is the best medicine.

Laughter is the language of the soul.

Laughter is timeless.

Life is better when you are laughing.

There are so many sayings in reference to laughter and they all have merit. Laughter is necessary and wonderful. Laughter fills our lives with happiness, and God loves to see His children happy.

Psalm 126:2-3: “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’ The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Happiness and laughter are gifts from God. God wants us to enjoy the time we have in this life. He wants us to be filled with joy in whatever we are doing and laughter is one way for us to show that joy. Since we have been blessed by God to have…

Do you Hear God?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

earbuds

In school, we all had to take comprehension tests. Whether we were strengthening our reading comprehension or refining our note-taking skills, we all had to learn how to hear information and understand what the information meant. Learning how to hear and understand God is a different kind of education because it is not necessarily something that can be taught. We are able to hear God by establishing a relationship with God to help that relationship to grow through prayer and reading His word. The closer we are to God, the more we are able to hear Him.

Hebrews 10:22: “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleans us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

When we turn to God in our moments of need, we are showing God…

Can You Control Your Tongue?

In an age of social media reliance, opinions are shared constantly. There are so many sites devoted to people sharing their opinions over the internet, whether people care to hear their opinions or not. Some people take a more neutral stance while others are more verbal about what they believe and why their opinion is the right one. However, as Christians, we should turn to scripture for instructions on how to behave when people have different views than our own.

When it comes to picking a side on an issue, we are presented with many options and we are expected to pick a side. Unfortunately, life isn’t black and white. There is a lot of grey area and sometimes it is difficult to make up our minds. Regardless of our personal views or our stance on certain issues in today’s society, we are first and foremost Christians. God has given us…

Why Are You Jealous?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

jealousy

It’s never a pretty sight when the little green-eyed monster, Jealousy, rears it’s ugly head. We have a tendency to want what we don’t have and, when we see someone who has something we want, jealousy creeps up. The problem with jealousy is that 1) it accomplishes nothing except making us feel bad and 2) we forget to be thankful of the things we do have. We need to remember to thank God for the blessings He has given us thus far and for the blessings that are on the way.

2 Corinthians 9:8: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

God wants to bless us because He loves us and wants to show us that He is proud of us. Jealousy is a distraction which causes us to…

Do You Hold Onto Hope?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

Life is full of surprises, sometimes happy surprises and sometimes not-so-happy surprises. The trick is finding a way to accept both the good and bad in life by focusing on the amazing possibilities that both types of surprises pose for our lives. I am convinced that everything happens for a reason. If it weren’t for the obstacles we have faced in our lives, we wouldn’t be the people we are today. It is better to hold onto hope then to focus on the trials we face and run the risk of losing hope. Without hope, we are lost and wandering aimlessly through life. Hope gives us purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

The hope that we posses because of God is sometimes hard to understand…

Are You Feeling Judged?

The world would be a much more pleasant place if we would all accept each other for our differences without judgement or, at the very least, if only we were immune to judgement. Unfortunately, judgement is an aspect of life that is inescapable. Judgement can come from just about anyone and, when we are judged, it hurts. We have to be conscious of the fact that, by proclaiming that we are Christians, other people are going to judge us and the choices we make, but don’t get downhearted.

John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

We, as Christians, are sometimes judged for following God because there are preconceived notions and stereotypes about what it means to be a Christian but, whether the judgment is coming…
