baptism

There comes a time in many of our lives when we realize that it is time for a change. We realize that we need a big change, and definitely a change for the better. Baptism is a way for Christians to show everyone they love, family, friends, and their church family, that they are ready to make a change for the Lord. When we make the choice to get baptized, we are making a commitment to God that we will live by His rules, instead of playing by our own rules. We are making an outward expression of our belief in Jesus Christ as Our Savior and we make a promise that we will conduct ourselves in such a way that is pleasing to Him.

Matthew 10:32: “Whoever acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven.”

Is God Proud of You?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

making god proud

We can all agree that it is a great feeling when someone commends us on a job well done. When our hard work is acknowledged, we feel appreciated. The sun shines a bit brighter on the days when our efforts finally pay off and we are told that we made a difference, whether it is at work , church, or anywhere else where we devote our time and energy. Unfortunately, we don’t have the pleasure of experiencing that type of day everyday. There are days when we try and try, and yet nothing seems to work the way we hoped. We work just as hard as when we got recognition but no one seems to notice this time. It is important to remember that we don’t live our lives by the approval of others but it is only human to want someone to appreciate us and give affirmations when we…

How Do You Deal with a Bully?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

bullying

As children, most parents tell us never to deal with a bully with fighting, but rather with our words. We should try to meet confrontation with civilized conversation and to rationalize with our bully until they see the error of their ways. The problem is though, most bullies have no interest in being civilized. Bullies want to find a way to build themselves up by bringing other people down. One would hope that, as adults, we wouldn’t have to deal with bullies anymore but, sadly, a different kind of bully exists. Adult bullies are sly and calculated. They don’t come right out and threaten to fight you and steal your lunch money like they did when we were kids. Bullies come in different varieties and most are more coy in their methods. But just as they did when we were younger, they still prey on anyone who seems weaker or…

How Can We Get Better?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

better-me

We all want to be good people who treat others with love and respect. We try to always be positive examples to everyone we meet but sometimes we need to pray for God’s strength and encouragement to get us through difficult situations, or when dealing with difficult people. When we are tired, we may not be very patient. When we argue, we may be prideful and stubborn. The more we pray and read the Bible, the more we learn how we can constantly improve ourselves. Scripture helps to remind us that, although we are not perfect, we can always become better people. We are all unique individuals with different strengths and weaknesses and God loves us for who we are, but we all have things about ourselves that we want to improve.

Colossians 3:12-15: “Put on them, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and…

Are You Too Busy To See Beauty?

Time is ticking on, day after day, and we can hardly find a moment to ourselves. If it wasn’t bad enough that there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day, we often find ourselves wasting what precious spare time we have to rest and relax. That’s not to say that we don’t deserve to take time to decompress from a busy day at work and completely veg out. But we shouldn’t ignore the beautiful creation that God has made available for us to admire. We should take time to smell the roses and to stare up at the big blue sky. We should glorify the Lord for His wonderful creation.

Psalms 145:5: “On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.”

What If You Never Get Married?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

2 hearts

We may question whether we are meant to be single or if we will get married, especially if we haven’t met anyone who comes close to the person we envision to be with for the rest of our lives. The traditional life plan used to be: date, marry, and have babies but nowadays, many of us have veered off the marriage and family highway, whether on purpose or not, and show no clear signs of whether we will ever get back on. Marriage just doesn’t seem to be the norm lately. Even though some people are completely content being single, living their lives and enjoying the freedom that comes with being single, there are other people who are not as thrilled to be without a spouse and family. The most important thing to remember is that, being without a spouse does not mean we are failures; it simply means that we…

How Do You Show Appreciation?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

thank-you-quotes

We have many things in our lives for which we are thankful. At Thanksgiving time, some families get together and share what things they are thankful for, and yet, for us, Thanksgiving is all year round. We have been blessed immensely in our lives and God deserves our praise. The Psalms are full of verses pertaining to thanking and praising God, specifically in reference to singing praises. Whether you are a good singer or not, the Lord enjoys hearing our love songs to Him because we are gracious children who want to thank Him.

Psalm 69:30: “I will praise the name of God with song, And shall magnify Him with thanksgiving.”

When we magnify the name of the Lord, we praise Him with great fervor and passion for all He has done for us. We don’t hold back our feelings toward God. We are vulnerable to show Him that we…

Does Prayer Work?

group holding hands

The power of prayer is an amazing thing. It’s difficult to imagine that, even with all of the people in the world, God is able to hear our prayers but He does hear them and He takes them seriously. It only takes one person with a prayer. But sometimes there are special prayers where you need the extra support from some bona fide Prayer Warriors. Prayer has an even bigger impact when we come together as a group and pray. There is power in numbers.

“For where two or more gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

As children of God, we need to remember to ask God for help when we need it. Even though God knows our hearts and knows what we need even before we ask for it, by asking for help, we are submitting to the will of God and showing that…

Can You Brave the Storm?

Hope Seekers - Seeking God's Hope in All Things

crumbling house

By definition, a house is our shelter. It protects us from the elements. A life with Jesus is the same. Psalm 91 describes this beautifully:

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'”

“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday”.

“If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near you.”

We have all had moments when we feel vulnerable and our confidence is a bit wobbly. There are times when life will test our faith. These are the times we should pursue…

Is It Too Late To Change?

A tiger can’t change his stripes. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. When we get accustomed to acting or behaving a certain way, it can be impossible to change but, when the behavior is hurtful or dangerous to us, or the people around us, a change is imperative for our survival. We can easily get wrapped up in the world and be consumed by addictions: money, sex, drugs, alcohol, food, and the list goes on and on. There are so many opportunities to lose control of our lives to become someone we don’t even recognize anymore. If you are not one of these people, consider yourself lucky but, chances are, you have someone in your life who is struggling with addiction. Anyone who has been hurt by someone with an addiction would be the first to say that it is impossible for that person to change. If you…
