What Do You Choose?

right-and-wrong-decisions

We have free will to do whatever we want with our lives. We are free to make whatever choices we want to make. And yet, just as with the law, there are consequences for making bad choices. It is important to remember that, although we have the ability to choose, we should look to God to direct us to the right choice. We have to show faith by allowing God to take the driver’s seat so we can live righteous lives.

1 Corinthians 6:12: “‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say – but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything’ – but I will not be mastered by anything.”

Sin can easily take control of our lives if we allow evil to get a foothold. Freedom to make our own choices is a blessing because we have been given the opportunity to make the right choices. We shouldn’t take advantage of our freedom by wasting it on poor decisions. We shouldn’t squander our free will. We should use it to grow in our relationship with God and to allow God to reveal His power and love for us.

Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.”

God is our Father, our protector, our conqueror.  Anything is possible when we have the Lord. If we turn to the Lord when a difficult decision arises, He will lead our path to the right decision. It can be difficult to relinquish our control though because we like to be independent and self-sufficient but, the fact is, we are not alone in this world and we don’t have to figure everything out on our own. God is always here to help us.

1 Samuel 12:22: “For the sake of His great name, the Lord will not reject His people, because the Lord was pleased to make you His own.”

We have all been chosen by God. Much like an adoptive child, God has chosen us and welcomed us into His family. He provides for all of our needs and He loves us unconditionally. What more could we possibly want in a Heavenly Father! For this very reason, we should look at God’s love as a motivator for us in our daily lives. When we reach a crossroads and we are trying to choose whether to go left or right, we should be encouraged by the love of our Father to ask ourselves which direction He would choose. We should come before the Lord and ask for His advice on a tough decision. There is no shame in asking for help. When you feel like you are getting off track, remember to pray to renew your faith.

Proverbs 3:1-35: “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

We are able to pray to God and look to the Bible for advice. God has provided these resources as our foundation on which to build our faith. When trials come into play, this is when we have to apply that faith and choose to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God. If we make the right choices, God will bless us immensely. We make our Father happy when He sees us living our lives to our full potential. God wants us to choose to follow Him, not because we have to but because we want to.

Deuteronomy 30:9-10: “The Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as He took delight in your fathers, when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Follow the Lord with all of your heart and He will lead you to the right choices.
